worst pictures in the MLS contest

Inspired by temeculaguy's three car garage monitor, I have another idea that will justify my obsession with constantly reviewing MLS listings even though I won't be buying any time soon.

What has shocked me is just how bad some MLS pictures are. Agents- make me want to come to the house! We assume that you are putting the house's best features in the pictures. I don't want to see dirty dishes. I don't want to see eight pictures of the same room. I don't want to see pictures of the current owners pets.

So I think we need to start the "worst of the MLS" contest. I do think we should cut some slack to low price listings and smaller older condos, where there is not much any photographer could do.
The true "worst" are the mid to high end listings showing features that actually drive me away from the home. Like the kitchen picture in my nominee. .

These are the best they could do on a $1.1-1.2m listing of a near new home?

classic! that's no woman baby...that's a man! holy schnikes!

I guess this includes almost everything and the kitchen sink.

It looks like they ripped out all the cabinets! Is this an REO? That would be hilarious if the previous owners stripped out the cabinets before vacating the property. I wonder why they left the Island?

That is classic. I wonder if there is even anything illegal about that maneuver? Even if you're under a mortgage, you're free to add or remove various items from your house. I'm surprised more FBs don't pull that stunt and strip the house clean before turning the keys over the the real FB (effed bank).

Does this mean the market is *almost* upside-down?

YOU WILL SAY WOW!!! I GUARANTEE IT!!! That’s what the listing description says and sure enough about 7 photos in I found myself saying it. http://www.redfin.com/stingray/do/printa...

Um...my eyesight is not as good as it used to be. What is going on in that "art" on pic #7? I'm serious. Thanks in advance.

Art? I thought it looked like a porn movie!!
I tried the magnifier on my mouse, but still couldn't really tell, lol.

haha, I know what show that was from; cbs's big brother. It was just a back rub.

however, the realtor should have left the tv off.

Sweet, that's my kind of marketing. Not just a free plasma t.v. but free porn, I'm sold.

What do I win? (besides backlash for being so heartless to post this).

Oh man, and people here think that I'm heartless......

Seeing the second photo, I swear I can actually sense the musty/pet urine smell.

It is just so wrong...at any price...

I love the last pic! Nice, um, pole. To say nothing of the fact that the kitchen would make me dizzy and probably faint on the floor every morning.

I know I'm late to this party. Scanning through the posts, I didn't spot this gem, so I'm posting it. Try to contain and resist the urge to buy this priceless beauty.

My favorite, of course, is the "lived-in" kitchen.

I think this one hands down deserves a price for best photos, staging and incentive to make you want to just puke.

The best part are the photos of the "custom" houses "nearby".

Thank goodness the toilet seat is down cause it looks like somebody made "bears" on it.

I "only" have 3 comments:

1. Nice Custom homes with power lines right it front... nice touch.

2. It seems odd, but those homes look more like fortress'.

3. The bathroom could easily be a Superfund project.

Can you imagine being neighbors and have to deal w/that eyesore!

I'm just trying to understand what possessed the sellers to take pictures of that disasterous house. What would compel them to try to sell a house w/those kind of photos?

Submitted by NotCranky on March 2, 2008 - 9:24am.

LuckyinOC's house exemplifies a certain kind of brilliance rooted in another culture likely combined with somewhat limited means. The last link is just disgustingly filthy. I hope it didn't belong to a feeble and isolated old person which is often the case with houses like this.

Submitted by jpinpb on March 2, 2008 - 9:52am.

Well, I'm not a realtor, but if I were, I'd hire someone to clean up the place before taking pictures or just not post any photos.

Submitted by jpinpb on March 2, 2008 - 10:41am.

This is not a dump of a place, but the photos make me dizzy.
Doing the best the realtor can w/what he has to work with:

That one in PL is horrid

jp, that Shawnee home is unbelieveable. As someone said, no pics at all would have been preferable!

And Alabama street reminds me that I am not sure how realtors do it - looking at the strange things people do to their homes day in and day out.

When we go into house hunting mode, we are always amazed at just how many people have ruined or severely damaged the value of their home through dumb, poorly thought out modifications. The older the home, the more likely you are to see these things.

We still talk about the home we toured with naked lady wallpaper and the home with an exterior-type glass sliding window in the hallway - with the living room on one side and a hallway on the other! Both homes were in Penasquitos.

Submitted by Wickedheart on March 2, 2008 - 6:55pm.

Sorry but I think this one has even the Shawnee house beat.

I actually drove by this beauty before the pictures were up. There was a family was inside looking at the house and the grandma was outside holding the baby. The old bird actually gave me the stink eye, like this is our house.

Submitted by jpinpb on March 2, 2008 - 8:35pm.

Wow. Hands down. This gets the prize. WTF. Why the heck would you put any photos up. You have to pay someone to demolish it and take the remains away.
