Vancouver canada

Is fucking awesome.

Does the USA actually suck and we just don't see it because we live in the middle of its total suckiness?

Issue 1: handguns are illegal in Canada. Advantage, Canada

Issue 2. We see lots of young women walking around at nite not afraid looking. We asked them if they actually feel ok at nite, and some said yes. Where is this in the USA?

Issue 3. Half the people in Vancouver grew up not speaking English as first language. When did the USA go from being a vibrant nation of immigrants to a country filled with assholes?

Issue 4: the bikeability of this city is outstanding. Motorists seem like...they're not insanely hostile.

Issue 5: health care?

Issue 6. The Univ of British Columbia is gorgeous and is practically free for residents. Wtf happened to the uc system. I'm paying a fucking fortune.

Issue 7. Downtown SD smells like a wall of dog piss. Downtown Vancouver does not.

I'm not saying the USA doesn't have a few good points, but, like, as an actual place to live, what if it actually.....sucks?

I tried to buy beer in Calgary, you had to go to a special store and it was insanely expensive.

I guess I have to live in CA.

There's breweries everywhere....

The dollar is super strong at the moment.

Some internet research supports the proposition that Canadians are objectively nicer. But could just be a result of not living in a deranged fucked up country?

Love Canada. So much natural beauty, and great people.

You should buy a place there! I hear housing is cheap. XD

Once you've bought a place and moved up, report back after Winter so we can see how well this opinion holds up. No? Still good? Try again after summer. It broke 100 this year and if you think AC is scarce in SD, boy have I got news for you!

Canada isn't better or worse than the US. It's just a little different.

scaredy, there are lots of great places in the world, and Canada is definitely one. I doubt if you'd ever want to give up San Diego completely. I know we never will--too much to love here--but extended visits, or second homes, etc. in other locations is something we enjoy--and should definitely be on your to do list for the future. Variety is the spice of life, and I think you would thrive on that variety.

I live in Temecula . We broke 100 all summer and I don't have ac.

Vancouver seasonal lows are actually comparable to Temecula, not NYC.

Canada has water.

But I'm too old to make this move.

I like Vancouver, Toronto is even better.

However income is lower in Canada, so you need to bring money from US.

If you were living in Canada, then the dollar being strong doesn't matter.

Whistler. Best mountain biking trails in the world!!!!

USA not even on the list.

Submitted by an on October 19, 2022 - 2:58pm.

Whistler is on my bucket list to go snowboarding. Wouldn't want to live there but would love to visit for a couple of weeks.

Submitted by scaredyclassic on October 20, 2022 - 10:48am.

Go for a walk around the lakes in Whistler. Gorgeous paths near lake. No fences. No dogs barking wildly.

Go for a walk in the USA. No beach access. Private property. Fences. Dogs that want to eat you. Owners armed to the fucking teeth watching Fox fucking news. Calling the cops because why the fuck are you walking around, near their houses, anyway. Very suspicious.

I think I might actually need to retire out of the USA.

St. George redux

Submitted by scaredyclassic on October 20, 2022 - 12:07pm.

Out in Temecula wine country there was a push to create a system of bike trails. My neighbors were like, fuck that, private property, brings in riff raff and burglars.

Got shot down quick.

Fucking america.

Great hiking and biking trails throughout Carlsbad

EP has some nice rentals in SG for you

Submitted by The-Shoveler on October 20, 2022 - 2:14pm.

I passed through Vancouver maybe 5-6 years ago on a drive vacation though the Canadian Rockies.

Did not spend much time in Vancouver but the drive through the Canadian Rockies I would highly recommend.

Spent about a week (if I remember) but wish we could have taken longer.

Also buying stuff in costco even then was like 20% cheaper in Canada.

Lot a fun but sorry no plans to move to Canada just yet.

Maybe AN said it, St-George - nice place to visit.

They're creating miles of hiking and biking trails around me too. They have plans to keep on adding more for the next couple of decades. They also have plans for bike path from Oceanside to the border, along the 5 with ocean view.

They recently opened it between Cardiff and Solana Beach

Submitted by scaredyclassic on October 21, 2022 - 12:28am.

Haven't seen it yet. But ridden from Oceanside to downtown several times, and though beautiful it's shitty for bikes. Car centric. And the cars are filled with ASSHOLES

I've walked all over Vancouver the last couple weeks. I have not once had ANYONE cut in front of me fast while crossing the street. In CA, I walk a lot, much more than a normal human, and my overwhelming experience is that it is NORMAL for motorists to find pedestrians an annoyance and to swerve right, a bit ahead of where you're crossing.

People in the USA I think truly do not give a shit about their fellow citizens. Can't speak for Canada but the motorists are obeying rules and seem not insanely impatient.

Also murder rate per capita in USA is 3x Canada.

Can't see something that's not done yet.

Life is short, why are you living in misery?

I walk a few miles daily. You’re CA experience is not mine

scaredy, you may very well be correct about all of the things that bother you, but the odds of changing those things in our lifetimes are probably slim to none, so, why not, just do whatever it is you want to do, and enjoy the time you have left on earth. That's what we do, and it's always worked out well. Live the life you want to live.

Good point. My wife concurs. Still, I'm crabby.

Eh. Air travel sucks and we can just drive up to Mammoth. It sounds like all of your gripes would be addressed by moving to NorCal.

Unless that is you aren't happy unless you have lots to complain about, in which case you'd best stay put. ;)

I agree that air travel is terrible. However, Google Whistler and Alpine hiking. They have world class gondolas. This is world class shit, not mammoth. The 2010 Olympics were there. I despise planes and actually going anywhere, but this was worth it.

Also I feel better today. But I still contend so cal drivers are generally disdainful of anything in their way
