Russia has been in the news a lot lately.

I listened to some Russian music this morning. Seems like a great country in many ways. but I think of Russia mostly as a frozen country of drunkards.

Will Russia ever be a prosperous free country of happy people?

Interesting thing about Russians and real estate, they like to have dachas or summer houses that look like shacks in Mississippi.
I don't understand why anyone would want the expense and maintenance of the cabins on unpaved roads.

All of them, or just those that you asked?

Just saying that Dacha ownership is part of the culture. Even people of modest means have dachas their build themselves, often wood cabins without insulation, with outhouses. Pretty rough conditions.

Wasn't (isn't) this also true of many Americans, especially those who live in the larger cities on the NE coast? Seems that many families over the years would have very rustic summer cabins that they would visit during the warmer months.

I watched Oliver Stone's Putin interviews on Showtime. Very interesting.

As the Soviet Union collapsed and Russia was falling apart, the USA tried to become the hegemon. No wonder Putin paid us back with Trump. No wonder Putin hates the Clintons.

Putin must be proud of himself right now.

Looking back, I think it was a mistake to push Russia too hard and humiliate them in the 1990s. The West should have helped Russia with a Marshall Plan to integrate Russia into Europe.

But who knew back in the 90s when Fukuyama’s End of History was all the rage.

Wow, life is pretty good in Moscow these days! No wonder my cousin's mother-in-law moved back to Moscow from NYC. Sanctions, anyone?
