He said something about purpose and meaning and not to think about money so much since I have enough.

Sounds...fishy...what's his angle?

You worry way too much. Let me show you why..

Quote:

i budget for bail money for crimes nonexistent grandchildren may commit 25 years from now.

In 25 years...Most crimes in CA will probably no longer be punishable and bail will no longer be needed, because bail exploits wealth inequality that CA is working to eliminate!...

Right now, theft under $950 is now considered petty theft and no longer prosecuted. That will almost likely certainly adjust for inflation, and it only takes one defense attorney to successfully argue that. With today's current published inflation rate of 8.5%, that petty theft would be considered anything under $7302.42 25 years from now.

Nothing to worry about!

Well, maybe the one thing I would worry about is you might be unemployed if CA moves that up by a few decades, obsoleting the need for prosecutors or defense attorneys. But that's a different argument to worry about!

Quote:

On the other hand, yeah, you're right, I do seem to have extra money. I still cannot pay $3 a pound for apples when I can pick up grapefuits from the street on my walk.

Whoa...You should never be spending $3/lb for apples in the first place...

You need to shop at Zion Markets or HMart or Sprout or Trader Joes!

$0.99/lb Fuji Apples:
https://www.hmart.com/weekly-sales-and-e...

$0.99/lb Honey Crisp Apples:
https://www.zionmarket.com/weeklysale?st...

While there, you can pickup grapefruit for
$0.69/per lb at Hmart or
$0.99 per 2 lbs at Zion

That's your problem right there. You're getting ripped off..

There's gotta be some equivalent in Temecula. Ask your closet asian friend or family, and he/she/they will know...

Gotta know where to shop.

...or do what SDR says... Plant an apple tree, and instead of watering it..pee into it. It's good for plants.... nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus naturally occurring.

Reduce, recycle, reuse.

i do worry way too much, according to my therapist.

But I reply, wouldnt you rather be a ukrainian with $2 million in assets than a ukrainian with $2,000? save your rubles, i say, disaster lurks everywhere.

the therapist tells me to relax and go have fun. enjoy life. it's short, etc.

i see perfect bars at the store are up to $3.50 from $2.50 a few months ago. I vow never to eat another perfect bar. i rage about the possibilities for poverty.

therapist says, just eat a fucking perfect bar if you
want.

i say I dont want to.

he says fine, dont fucking eat it. and rubles are worthless anyway.

(I'm paraphrasing)

(he's a pretty good therapist)

I like volunteering and spending my money on help kids in STEMs get what they need to do well at competitions. No kid who is motivated should be at a disadvantage simply because there is not enough money to be spent on basic tools needed to do well.

that is nice. i need to think more of others and forget myself.

I like to shop at barons because it's on the way home by bike. But apples cost a lot. Need to calculate out gas cost to Asian market, divide by time, factor in cost of wear and tearing the car.

Hmmm. Too complex

It's funny. I spent the last few hours agonizing over losing my e12 socket and having to spend $7 to buy a new e12.

But no issues dropping money on a new gear during competition when things unexpected broke. I think I'm getting close to break 5 digits soon. But to see kids light up and determined because you armed them with the tools to they need to compete is pretty compelling.

FWIW This team isnt one I'm affiliated with, but they are a great team. They need $25k for a CNC to better compete.

There are teams elsewhere that have several hundred thousands in grants in comparison....

Here's another way to think of it scaredy.

You, me, and most of the folks on this board have a pretty high stack of $$. Not rich, but not poor either. Either upper middle class or lower upper class.

We've done reasonably intelligent things with that cash: diversified, real estate, etc.

If things tank so bad that we are poor, over 95% of the population will be in way worse shape than we are. Way worse.

We are going to be just fine. No guarantee we'll live high on the hog, but a good chance we will and if we don't, it will be because of an event or events much bigger than we had control over and there would have been nothing we could have done anyway.

Let's say you have $1M saved. You probably have much more. Things tank so your $1M is worth $1K in today's dollars. Do you think that $3.50 you saved by not buying a perfect bar is going to make any difference at all? If $1M -> $1K then $3.50 -> $0.0035 or a third of a penny. You could have bought three perfect bars and just have spent a single cent.

Or perhaps worrying makes you feel better. In that case worry away!

No, I don't like worrying.

Sacrifice decreases my shame and guilt.

I will eat raw nuts plus honey. Much cheaper.

Have you seen the price of raw nuts? Surely you don't think that's cheaper than a perfect bar!

Submitted by scaredyclassic on April 15, 2022 - 6:33pm.

A perfect bar is I think 2 oz, so figure 8 x $3.50 is 28 a pound. U can get almonds for 8 a pound.

Well I just found a way to save a a lot of money.FCP Euro had a lifetime replacement on all parts you buy. That I knew already. What I didn't know is that it also applies to fluids and filters.

SO...The deal is that you change your oil, you buy new oil and filter, and then you ship the old oil and filter back and they refund you the original purchase price.

Now the caveat is you need to ship everything back 90 days and shipping is expensive...So it's probably not worth paying to ship just a just of oil and 1 filter back...
BUT, in my case, I have 4 German cars so as long as I do all my maintenance all at the same time, I should be able to get lifetime oil, filter, brake rotors, brake pads , brake fluid, transmission fluid for free, minus shipping.

also UPS shipping to the east coast isn't bad. It's $25 up to 80 lbs so long as the shipping container volume is equivalent to 12"*12"*12".

So I'm watching YouTube videos on how to make custom size shipping boxes out of old boxes ,since to ship things back, I need longer but shorter boxes, but I don't want to buy boxes.

See, this is why I don't get bored. Lol.

Usually those warranties are for manufacturing defects, not normal wear from usage. Theye didn't put that clause in the warranty?

No clause... "The only items are not covered are additives, soap, wax, cleaners, etc"

Quote:

(12:18:37 PM) Me: Hi Tanner.
(12:18:42 PM) Tanner Amoroso: Hello!
(12:18:46 PM) Tanner Amoroso: Sure, what can I help with?
(12:19:03 PM) Me: I have a bunch of items that I'd like to send back with the lifetime warranty. (I already bought replacements from FCP recently).
(12:19:07 PM) Me: But i have a few questions
(12:19:20 PM) Me: 1. Are oil filters considered consumables that are not covered?
(12:21:36 PM) Tanner Amoroso: Yes! The are!
(12:21:51 PM) Tanner Amoroso: Oil and oil filters as well as cabin and air filters are covered
(12:22:00 PM) Me: oil is covered?
(12:22:05 PM) Me: That's a consumable though
(12:22:09 PM) Tanner Amoroso: The only items are not covered are additives, soap, wax, cleaners, etc
(12:22:23 PM) Tanner Amoroso: Oil is covered under our Lifetime Warranty! To do so:

1) Reorder the same oil/service kit previously purchased from us

2) Perform your oil change, putting the old oil in the new bottles

3) Fill out our warranty returns form found here: https://www.fcpeuro.com/returns/selection

4) When packing the oil, please put the bottles in a plastic bag and tie it off at the top to prevent any leaks. Include the returns form in the package and ship to 155 Hill St. Milford, CT, 06460

Returns process the business day after they arrive, and refunds post within 1-3 further business days.

We do not cover return shipping for warranty returns. If your car burns or leaks oil, the amount missing during the return deducts from the refund. Other items do not need to be returned in their original packaging.
(12:22:46 PM) Me: oh.
(12:22:53 PM) Me: What about things like brake fluid?
(12:23:29 PM) Tanner Amoroso: Yes, it is the same procedure! As mentioned, the only items that are not covered under the lifetime replacement guarantee are the ones referenced above!
(12:23:48 PM) Me: my goodness.
(12:23:58 PM) Me: I shouldn't shop anywhere else. I mean i rarely do but...
(12:24:06 PM) Tanner Amoroso: Our lifetime replacement covers every single part we sell, including wear-and-tear items like brake pads, spark plugs, gaskets, rotors, filters, belts, wiper blades, etc. This covers every part across every brand, including OE, OEM, genuine, performance, aftermarket, and re-manufactured parts.
(12:24:21 PM) Me: That I knew. but fluids I always thought was consumable.
(12:24:33 PM) Me: I guess technically if it's changed out, it isn't consumed, lol
(12:24:48 PM) Tanner Amoroso: As long as we get it back, we dispose of it properly and you get a refund for the second purchased kit!
(12:25:04 PM) Me: whoa.
(12:25:11 PM) Tanner Amoroso: Awesome right?
(12:25:18 PM) Me: Does it have to be an identical item.
(12:25:35 PM) Me: For instance if I bought brake fluid brand 1, and next time brake fluid 2
(12:25:39 PM) Tanner Amoroso: Yes, technically, but not necessarily......
(12:25:47 PM) Tanner Amoroso: You can certainly still use the Lifetime Warranty to change brands, but you'll need to use the attached returns form instead of the site because the site portal won’t allow brand changes.

The only difference in the process is that we'll refund the original purchase price of the original brand instead of the new purchase price of the new brand. Effectively, you're just paying the difference in price of the upgrade.

(12:26:04 PM) Me: that's fine.
(12:26:19 PM) Me: Ok, how far back can i go back and do this?
(12:26:24 PM) Me: I didn't realize this.
(12:26:39 PM) Me: And can I ship multiple items in different RMAs in one box?
(12:27:27 PM) Tanner Amoroso: The program started back in 2011 ( I believe ) As long as you follow the steps, we can have you covered. And yes! That is totally sufficient!

Confirmed. It's not a scam.. Just got my refunds....

Shipping to east coast was only $24 via UPS .... IF you can use the flat rate shipping, which means you need it to fit in something 12"x12"x12" or a total of 1728 sq inches and weigh 50lbs or less... Otherwise shipping will be closer to $80 if you use a standard size box.

So I had to make my own box that was below 1728 sq inches and fits all the content.... I'm a master packer now too, lol...
