Getting tired of seeing all this talk of Filner on the news. Makes me think there is no other news worthy stories out there. Heck most of us don't even live in the city limits.

Yup. And some of us don't even HAVE a mayor!

Yeah I know. Local politician is a creep who makes Anthony Weiner look normal. Then says two weeks in therapy will cure what is most likely a multi decade affliction and who wants taxpayers to pay for his legal woes.

No story there. He is just the mayor of the city who is a national joke now.

Submitted by all on July 30, 2013 - 8:57am.

Feelner is also a former US representative. He used to spend a lot of time with Weiner and Boehner.

Sounds like good ol' boy's behavior.

In the past such behavior would be considered normal and the women accusers would not even get the time of day.

I know people who say that the women should not even be believed. They are just bitter and vengeful because they didn't get what they wanted.

I personally believe that Filner is a dirty filthy old man. He should just have gone to bars to meet some willing women.

Submitted by SD Realtor on July 30, 2013 - 9:36am.

Women are pretty adept at detecting creeps. Guys like Weiner or Clinton are just horndogs. Men in power who liked women and women liked them. They didn't have to harass a woman.

My wife says Filner is the type of guy who women just know to avoid. Even at a bar!

Submitted by FlyerInHi on July 30, 2013 - 10:04am.

SDR. That's what I hear from lots of acquaintances.

Not sure if Weiner is a horndog. He's hiding behind his computer. Lots do people do that. They send pics but when it comes to meeting people, they aren't so good. Lots of married men chat online.

Young adults these days think nothing of sending revealing pics of themselves.

No woman has yet come forward to claim she had sex with Weiner.

Submitted by spdrun on July 30, 2013 - 1:44pm.

Still, penis shots are in bad taste even on dating sites. A penis is like a weapon. Useful to have, but it's impolite to wave it around in front of strangers unless specifically requested to.

Submitted by FlyerInHi on July 30, 2013 - 3:23pm.

I didn't know he sent penis pics.

I hear Facebook and other sites never delete pics and posts.
They just hide them from view. The politicians of the future better watch what they are posting today.

So who are you voting for, spdrun?

Submitted by spdrun on July 30, 2013 - 7:25pm.

As far as the Dem primary, NOT Quinn or Weiner. John Liu most likely, though he's a long shot, maybe DeBlasio.

Liu is the only one out of Quinn, Weiner, Thompson, and himself to hold a real job for any length of time and have a university degree in a real discipline (math and physics degrees, I believe).

And he's had the chutzpah to tell both Bloomberg (on stop and frisk) and AIPAC (he said that Israeli politics is NOT a local campaign issue and refused to speak of it) to go jump in a lake.

I want a MAYOR, not a political whore.

Think of prime ministers of England like Herbert Asquith and Winston Churchill. Or Thomas Jefferson who began screwing his teenage slave while she was his servant in Paris. She was about 14. They produced 6 children over the years.

The world sure has changed.

Submitted by spdrun on August 5, 2013 - 12:26pm.

Since Jefferson, sure.

Churchill and Asquith had mistresses (as do probably 90% of male politicians today), but that doesn't mean that they forced themselves on unwilling people as Feelner is accused of doing. Big difference between having a mistress and being a predatory creep who gropes random people.

I personally wouldn't consider a politician having a mistress to be a deal-breaker, but outright boorish behavior is worse than that.

Submitted by FlyerInHi on August 5, 2013 - 1:31pm.

Keeping a discrete mistress is one thing.

But Asquith and Churchill were pigs. Asquith would take a woman's hand and put it on his penis. Churchill did very similar stuff to Filner and worse but he was a war hero so things were hushed. He was also pretty corrupt.

I think there's a lot we don't know about our heroes. Jefferson story has been kept secret for about 200 years. Historians were complicit and people did not admit the truth until science proved undeniable.

Maybe our priorities are screwed up. I personally don't see anything wrong with what Elliot Spitzer or Clinton did with willing partners.

Filner, on the other hand, is a pig.

Submitted by moneymaker on August 6, 2013 - 8:01pm.

If Filner looked like Brad Pitt I don't think this would be an issue. The guys not married and fooling around, he hasn't been convicted of doing anything illegal yet. I feel like I don't really have the right to judge him, maybe the women do, I feel sorta sorry for him, though it may turn out that what he did was illegal. I for one will reserve my judgement for later.

Clinton is no better than Filner (at least based on current info) He lied under oath rather than choosing to refuse to answer questions about ML. He was impeached by the house of representatives. When will people stop painting Clinton as a man persecuted for infidelity? And I voted for him. With respect to Spitzer - I assume paying for prostitutes is illegal in DC - so he is also guilty of a crime/misdemeanor. Why do we, as Americans, tolerate disrespect for the law by our politicians?

Moneymaker - are you Filner? Otherwise your "feeling sorry" for him is inexplicable. Plus, if you "don't really have the right to judge him," why are reserving your judgement "for later"?

Actually Clinton was impeached for a little bit more than lying under oath. It was also for using his office to block/subvert justice in the Paula Jones affair. While it is often noted that the the ML affair 'preciptated' it, there was court action prior.. where it seemed Clinton was pulling behind the scenes strings. Too many 'dismissals' and then case restarts.

I have to say - some of the allegations are not sexual harassment - the church singer who said he came on to her after church - that'sleazy, but not sexual harassment. I think we can all agree that Filner is more slimy than smooth as a "player". It seems like some of the complaints are just showing he was slimy and inept in asking women out, making moves on them. But wasn't using his position/power to coerce them.

That said - the nurse who just came forward. She went to him to advocate for a patient and he said he'd help out **IF** she'd go out with him. That's classic sexual harassment. If it happened as reported - he's toast.

I just wish Gloria Allred wasn't involved in this - it taints what might be legitimate complaints.

Asking people out is fine. Hell, I'm not even horrified with an attempt to trade favors for favors, despite the fact that it's cause for a lawsuit. The groping of random people, on the other hand, bothers the hell out of me.

Guy seems like a perv and a predator.

Good L@rd, some of these very prominent, well-connected women, ESP the rear admiral (#9) and the philanthropist (#5) really have no reason to make stuff up for money.

But I agree with UCGal that asking the nurse for a date in exchange for "helping" her patient is over the line. However, she wasn't one of his "employees." He's got more to worry about with the city employees' claims (IF legitimate). I could see City employees trumping up their claims in an effort to "work the system," ESPECially if nearing retirement.

After all, Feelner is "single" (no longer engaged? - who CARES) and can comment on someone's looks and ask them out if he wishes.

Back a few years ago, when Filner represented my District, I thought his judgment was poor when he publicly grandstanded to help a local woman who was losing her house to foreclosure after a divorce (that she should have never kept in the first place). But I never imagined that he was so socially-handicapped that he couldn't focus on the issues he was elected to address.

I still think he is better qualified for the mayor's job than the likes of (delusional) Carl DeMaio. But his "poor judgment" may very well end his political career. I don't think any of the (prominent) women (Nos 5 and 7-11 in the article) would have come out of the woodwork after the first claims were made had this thing not been blown completely out of proportion. They're all "boomers" who have been around the block a time or two and who undoubtedly just chalked their experiences with Feelner up to being all in a day's work :=0 We must remember that these womens' adulthood and careers spanned an era where there were no laws against "sexual harassmemt."

This whole mess doesn't bode well for the City of SD. Instead of focusing on those looming ULP's pending at PERB and the CA courts of appeal and other highly important pending matters and claims, the City Attorney is undoubtedly now deploying their staff to "investigate" Bob Filner's (lengthy) "personal life." Given his age, that could take YEARS, folks. Who CARES! I don't vote for candidates based upon their personal lives. I want EXPERIENCE. Filner has that ... in spades ... and SD sorely needed his experience ... making this whole debacle very unfortunate, indeed.

Ughh! SD is becoming the laughing stock of the nation. This isn't good, folks.

Very good in my book. Along with higher rates, loss of specuvestor interest, and speculation on the end of QE3, it may have some small salutary effect on property prices.

I still think the guy is a scumbag perv, BTW, but being a laughingstock does have its advantages. It's not a question of him asking people out (I've dated/flirted back and forth with people whom I've also had a professional relationship with, meh not a big deal), but groping random people is 100% over the line.

paramount, even if "Character Counts," SD voters' only other alternative was the likes of (delusional) Carl DeMaio, who not only has a few skeletons in his (much newer) closet, but having him as mayor would have cost the City many millions in futile legal fees, due to the "Strong Mayor" form of government they voted for in 2004. Having DeMaio as mayor would have been very dangerous, indeed for the City.

Perhaps the City's legal tab with Feelner at the helm will also end up being enormous if this thing gets too much further out of hand.

The is all the more reason Goldsmith needs to dim the blinds of his conference rooms and bring in the coffeemakers, batteries and flashlights and depose on video for as long as it takes every person who has filed a lawsuit against the City for alleged sexual harassment by Feelner AND ALL their "witnesses" ... forthwith. Their "risk mgmt" investigators should be out in full force in every department where there has been a claim filed against the City and Feelner for sexual harassment. They should stay in those departments until they record interviews with everyone (including any resident flies on the wall) who claim to have any information at all about Feelner's "victims'" claims.

It's in the City's best interest that this thing be put behind them ASAP.
