4th Quarter Meet-Up

Hi All,

Have been swamped at work, so not posting much recently, but managing to read every now and then. Love some of the new posters!

Anyway, am thinking it might be time to schedule another meet-up.

How does November 18th sound? It's a Saturday. 4pm. I'm thinking same place as last time, or we can change it. I guess if people have ideas, post them. A bar might be good. That way we could mix it up a little. Downtown could be good too because I'm not sure everyone's seen all the CRANES!

Our last meet-up over the Summer was good - about 25 people showed up. It was in Encinitas.

Also, I was thinking it might be funny to print up some Pigginton t-shirts for all of us Piggingtonians. What do you think, Rich?

If you guys like the idea, let me know, and I'll look into it.

Maybe submit slogans for the tees in your post when you RSVP if you're coming. We can vote on the one we like best. In the meantime, I'll work on getting some pricing.

Nov 18 is good. I'll be wearing my Housing Bubble t-shirt, and will be happy to get another Piggington shirt to wear on alternate days/open houses.

"Piggingtonian" or

"San Diego housing bubble site

I didn't go to the first one, so I'd like to try to make it to this one. Encinitas works great for me. T-shirt slogan? Here are some examples:

In God We Trust,
Everyone Else Bring Data.

A Realtor's worst nightmare.

Opiate for the bubble sitters.

How's your ARM feeling now?

Homeowners, you can't say you weren't warned.

Submitted by lindismith on September 15, 2006 - 9:13am.

Greek, that opiate one's very good!

Submitted by Chrispy on September 15, 2006 - 9:19am.

Instead of Piggington: A Realtor's Worst Nightmare... how about The Housing Industry's Worst Nightmare?

Why should mortgage brokers, bankers, crooked appraisers, builders, etc be left out of the fun?

How about:

Let's see who blinks first

What's up guys, Belinda, thanks for taking charge of this. I have totally slacked in organizing another :-)

The last one was very informative, I will definitely be at the next one. You all are always welcome back at the resteraunt, if you want to try a bar that's great too!

Even though I'm not a great contributor like most of you, if I can arrange it, I'll hitch hike down from SF.

Oh, and save me a T-Shirt.

I think anyone coming to the event should bring either

(1) Most outrageous real estate advertisement (outrageous claim, false promise, misleading financing claim, etc.), or

(2) The most rosy-eyed real estate article from the business section of a major newspaper.

Just for fun sake, dig up some old "sky is the limit" articles from a year back.

Not sure if I can make it, as I am in L.A., but I enjoy reading all of the posts and discussions.

Anybody have access to one of those 1-800-ASK-TROY billboards? You know, the 30-ish used car salesman turned loan officer whose face was plastered all over San Diego?

Yeah - I would trust him with my money. He looked like someone you'd pick up at the beach, not a banker.

Submitted by saiine on September 15, 2006 - 4:41pm.

Sounds fun, but none of those bright yellow "REAL ESTATE INVESTOR SEEKS APPRENTICE, 20K PER MONTH" signs haha

Submitted by ybc on September 18, 2006 - 8:41pm.

I'd like to come since I missed the last one. But is it possible to move it to early November? I have relatives visiting on the 11/18 weekend.

Submitted by lindismith on September 18, 2006 - 8:54pm.

ybc, I guess we could move it, but you're asking a lot of people to move for you. Can't you get away for just 2 hours that Saturday? Work with us here.

Y'all (I'm a Texan) must be a bunch of single folks/DINKs to select a bar as a venue. I've got a wife and kids, and while I enjoy helping my kids pester their politically-correct teachers with bubble gum cigarettes, I can't drag the family to a downtown bar on a Saturday evening and actually tacitly encourage smoking and drinking! But, sounds like fun!

I really am looking forward to meeting people here as well. My email is malfred@stanfordalumni.org. I can bring the beer. Should we create an email list?

Submitted by CAwireman on September 18, 2006 - 10:21pm.

Sounds like fun. Here's my email address: cawireman@aol.com

Look forward to meeting everyone.

Submitted by powayseller on September 18, 2006 - 11:23pm.

It's not at a bar, is it? I vote for a restaurant, quiet if possible, so we can talk.

The last place worked out well. I will try to make it...

I'm excited to meet the people on this board!

Should we create a yahoo group or something so that everyone can register and we can keep a calendar online, send group emails, etc.?

(instead of keeping track with all of these replies here -- some people are starting to post their email addresses)

Well I just went ahead and created it. :)

Click here to join the piggingtonians group

Let me know if anybody else wants to be a moderator. Also please DO let me know if this is a bad idea so I can delete the group. My yahoo username is 'chuass' (I know that sounds bad -- that's not how it's pronounced; it's a long story).

Submitted by nadorenter on September 19, 2006 - 11:18am.

lendingbubbleco, I really like your t-shirt idea,
"Let's see who blinks first"

Submitted by lindismith on September 27, 2006 - 1:41pm.

Just letting you guys know I should have pricing on t-shirts next week.

check out the Yahoo group, posted earlier in this thread. People are voting for slogans on the Tees.

oh, and forgot to say we should just meet at the same place as before, because some people are not single and can't go to bars.... ;)

Meet at:
Today's Pizza and Salad.
They are off I-5, Santa Fe Exit, on the west side of the freeway in the Vons/Rite Aid shopping center.

If you think you are going to come, add an RSVP of "yes" to this so we can give them a head's up that a small group is coming!

Submitted by saiine on September 28, 2006 - 9:54am.

Sounds good guys, let's schedule ahead of time so I can tell Mike to reserve some tables for us. Just let me know :-) The shirts sound great!

Submitted by lindismith on September 28, 2006 - 10:08am.

That's great if he set's aside the tables again, but tell him not put them in a big square, because we want to be able to move around, and talk to each other. Maybe it's best if he just leaves them like they always are, but puts reserved signs on them.

Submitted by saiine on September 29, 2006 - 1:53pm.

Right on, just let me know a date that works for you all.

Submitted by lindismith on November 6, 2006 - 8:42am.

Just a friendly reminder that we're still on for 11/18.

Same place as last time. (See above.)

I took some time off to go to Tanzania and climb Kilimanjaro, so I have not looked into the t-shirts. I will do that this week.

In the meantime, it would be good if we could have a few more votes on the slogan... :) (See link above to yahoo group.)

Submitted by barnaby33 on November 6, 2006 - 11:35am.

Ok, I voted, can I have my sticker now?

Submitted by sdduuuude on November 6, 2006 - 6:10pm.

I would like to place my vote for
"In God we Trust - Everyone Else Bring Data."

This was the motto for a long time and represents why Rich is so good at what he does.

Furthermore, it doesn't make this strictly a "Bubble" site.

It is a Real Estate analysis site that will keep going even when the market is ready to grow again.

Submitted by jg on November 6, 2006 - 10:27pm.

Like sdd said, plus, I like the universal (inadvertent?) Piggingtonian proclamation of belief in God.

Submitted by zk on November 13, 2006 - 10:03pm.

Just thought I'd post something here to move it up to the top and remind everyone that the meetup is this Saturday.

Juice, love your "Presidents should be masters of intellectual curiosity and firm in their convictions that are borne of arduous debate and re-examination" type stuff. Always good to have a guy who can think on board. Hope you can make it.

Deadzone, we agree on a lot. Hope you'll be there.

PD, we don't agree on hardly anything (political), hope you can make it.

Jg, I don't really care if you come or not. I'm just kidding! It'll be fun to meet you; you've obviously got your share of personality. You know, lots of my friends are republicans; some of them seem like they might even be as fanatical about it as you, jg. I don't really know for sure, though, because we generally avoid talking more than briefly and superficially about politics. It's a good thing not to let politics get in the way of friendships. Especially for you, jg, now that hardly anybody agrees with you any more. ;)

Anyway, hope to see lots of you there!
